Prof. Girón Negrón's primary areas of research are the literatures of the Iberian peninsula in the Middle Ages and early modern period. He is particularly interested in the interplay of Spanish, Arabic and Hebrew literatures (as well as Latin, Galician-Portuguese and Catalan), and the intersections of religion and literature in premodern European cultures. Related interests include the theory and practice of translation, bilingual aesthetics, intellectual history, comparative mysticism and humanist philology. He is the author of Alfonso de la Torre's 'Visión Deleytable': Philosophical Rationalism and the Religious Imagination in 15th Century Spain (Leiden: Brill, 2001). Recent articles and essays (see below) examine the literary impact of Jewish-Christian-Muslim interactions on Spanish authors from the 13th through the 16th centuries. Currently, he is working on a book-length monograph entitled "The Hawk Is Not Worth Less": Jews and Judaism in Medieval Castilian Literature. He is also preparing a study and anthology of Hispano-Latin narratives on the translation of saints and the theft of relics and a critical edition of the 14th century Coplas de Yoçef in Judeo-Spanish aljamiado.
